Michael Murphy has made a return to intercounty football for the 2025 season.
Jim McGuinness says Michael Murphy is looking good right now but he’ll continue to ‘look good’ behind closed doors for the time being.
The Donegal boss is resisting the temptation to rush the returning 2012 captain too quickly as Murphy, and a number of others back in from the cold, slowly build themselves back up to the rigours of inter-county football.
Murphy wasn’t named in the Donegal squad for the weekend’s NFL win over Dublin, 0-20 to 0-16, in Ballybofey and it could be another few rounds yet before supporters get a glimpse of their talisman back in action.

“Michael is great, he’s in good shape and he’s enjoying it,” said McGuinness after that Dublin win. “We just want to be careful with him. We want to be careful with Eoghan McGettigan as well, Odhran McFadden Ferry and Eoin McHugh.
“Eoin did come on there in the last quarter but he’s that little bit further down the line as playing midfield for Kilcar last term really benefited him”.
