Donegal’s Ciarán Thompson has been nominated for the GAA.ie Footballer of the Week award following his standout performance at the weekend against Derry.
The Naomh Conaill midfielder is one of three players shortlisted, joining Mayo’s Ryan O’Donoghue and Barry McCambridge of Armagh in contention for the honour following the round 5 National Football League matches over the weekend.

Thompson played a pivotal role in Donegal’s dramatic comeback win over league champions Derry at Fr Tierney Park, Ballyshannon, on Sunday, registering six points in a high-intensity contest that saw the home side emerge on a 1-22 to 1-19 scoreline.
Donegal and Gaoth Dobhair man Daire Ó Baoill was also named on the GAA.ie Team of the Week, having already made the named in the side following Donegal's win over Dublin last month.
Ryan McHugh has already captured the Footballer of the Week award in 2025 following Donegal's victory over Kerry last month in Killarney, while Ó Baoill and Patrick McBrearty have been nominated this season as well.
