The 2022 All-County Football and Hurling Leagues have been confirmed following the first ever County Committee meeting at the Donegal Training Centre in Convoy on Wednesday night.
Each team will have a minimum of 12 matches, with 13 sides in the new Division 1, 14 in Division 2 and 13 in Division 3. The positioning is based on last season’s finishing positions. Matches in Divisions 1 and 3 will be six home and six away, with seven and six wither way in Division 2.
Three teams promoted from Division 2 to Division 1; and from Division 3 to Division 2 and three teams relegated from Division 1 to Division 2; and from Division 2 to Division 3, using the following method:
* Top two teams in Divisions 3 and 2 are automatically promoted to the Division above
* The teams placed third and fourth play-off, with the winner claiming promotion
* The bottom two teams in Divisions 1 and 2 are automatically relegated to the Division below
* The teams placed third and fourth from bottom play-off, with the loser relegated
Fixtures are expected to be released next week, with the action getting underway on the first weekend in April, running until late July. The championships are pencilled in to start on the second weekend in August.
If the proposal is adopted, the CCC could reverse the fixtures in 2023. A league final between the top two teams could be considered.
The Senior Hurling League will have eight teams involved.
