Coláiste na Carraige's Faul Cup final abandoned after player injury

The Faul Cup Ulster final between Coláiste na Carraige and Ballybay CC was abandoned today after a Carrick player picked up a head injury just before half-time at the Bawnacre Centre in Irvinestown.

The player was removed to hospital by Air Ambulance and every care was taken. The injury occurred just a minute into added time at the end of the first half. He is wished well for a speedy recovery.

After waiting a period, referee Mark Loughran, after consulting with both school mentors, decided to abandon the game. Ballybay were leading 1-6 to 1-4 at the time.

It is the second Faul Cup game which has been abandoned this month with the semi-final between Coláiste na Carraige and St Catherine's VS, Killybegs abandoned after less than two minutes due to a head injury to a St Catherine's player. No arrangements have been made for the Faul Ulster final re-fixture. The winners are due to play in the All-Ireland semi-final on Saturday.
