Glenfin have made a great start to their Division 1 campaign
Glenfin continued their good run with an emphatic win over an understrength Killybegs in Saturday evening’s sunshine at Pairc Taobhoige.
Glenfin 5-14
Killybegs 0-4
Daniel McGlynn scored two of the goals and Aaron McGlynn, Ciaran Brady and Gerard Ward scored one each for the locals, who had the precious league points in the bag from a long way out. They led 4-4 to 0-3 at half-time.
Jack McSharry scored all of Killybegs first half points with two of them from frees. Killybegs lined out without Evan Broderick, Seamus Óg Byrne, Ryan Carr, Michael Callaghan Shaun Gorrell and Niall Campbell that defeated Ardara last time out.
But this should in no way take away from Glenfin’s performance playing a fast an open brand of football, with quick hands and varying the long and the short game they looked a class apart.
They have serious pace all over the park and in Aaron McGlynn, they have a lightning fast gem. For his goal, the game's third, he just tore open the Killybegs rearguard like a bolt of lightning to give Cory Byrne between the posts no chance.
Killybegs did deserve more than three points in the opening half hour. But a stout resistance from a tenacious local defence and a lack of support at times for the man in possession forced speculative shots to nothing.
Glenfin again dominated the second period and added a further 1-10 to their score while Killybegs could only muster a single point from a close in free. Gerard Ward, recovering from a broken hand, scored Glenfin fifth and final goal shortly after replacing Ciaran Brady. Ward found the net after being set clear by Aaron McGlynn.
It was a fifth win in seven outings for managers David Carroll and Gareth Martin, who ran his bench in the second half.
