John Ross Molloy . . . another goal for Ardara
A well finished goal from Ardara midfielder John Ross Molloy was the key score in this testy affair that also saw the home side’s full-forward CJ Molloy red-carded five minutes from time.
Ardara 2-6
Bundoran 1-8
Molloy kept cool to steer the ball low past Bundoran keeper Conor Carty seven minutes from time.
Molloy’s precious strike put Ardara into a 2-6 to 1-7 lead.
And even though wind-assisted Bundoran pegged a point back from a ‘45’ from Gary Clancy they just could not get that vital equaliser in a testy finish.
Second from the bottom, Ardara showed great grit to come back against the breeze to fashion a victory.
Visitors Bundoran had a dream start in this encounter between two teams who could be facing the drop later in the season.
The Seasiders fashioned a lightning six man move that ended with midfielder Matthew Duffy in front of Ardara keeper Matthew McGlynn.
Duffy calmly slipped the ball to the net for the perfect start, playing into the breeze.
But the home side hit back with three points of their own from CJ Molloy (free), Robbie Adair and the bustling Kevin Whyte to level matters after just six minutes.
However, the wasteful home side did not score again until the 29th minute as Bundoran tacked on three points.
The Ardara defence was having problems coping with the pace and direct running of Bundoran’s Timmy Govorov and Adam McGloin.
Gary Clancy stretched the visitors’ lead with a pointed free in the 10th minute after the impressive Govorov was fouled.
He added another two minutes later and Bundoran almost had a goal when a high lob from Niall Carr bounced over the Ardara bar.
Govorov made it 1-4 to 0-3 with a fine individual effort in the 18th minute.
He was then involved in a heavy clash with Ardara’s Kevin Whyte and the latter was lucky not to get at least a yellow card.
Ardara had considerable possession but hit five bad wides.
However, Paul Walsh rescued matters for the home side, when after an incisive run down the left he deftly flicked the ball to the net as the visitors led by 1-4 to 1-3 at the break.
Kyle McMulty increased the visitors’ lead on the resumption.
But it was Ardara who took the initiative with points from CJ Molloy, Whyte and Walsh to go into the lead for the first time on a score of 1-6 to 1-5.
Bundoran hit back with two points from McGloin and Govorov, before Molloy’s priceless goal sealed a valuable victory for Ardara.
