The Donegal LGFA Senior Championship trophy will now be known as the Donna Dunnion Boyle Memorial Cup, following the draw for the Kernan Group Ladies Championship tonight.

Donna, who played for Four Masters from 1992 to 2011 and was an All-Ireland JFC winner with Donegal back in 2003, sadly passed away in February. A native of Barnesmore, before later moving to Ardara, the 41-year-old teacher and mother-of-two was the wife of former Donegal and Ardara footballer Brendan Boyle.

Brendan was joined by Donna’s brother Barry and father Danny at Kernans Bistro & Coffee House, Letterkenny Retail Park, and thanked the Donegal LGFA and Seamus Herron, its Chairperson, for the gesture.

“I’d just like to take this opportunity here to thank Seamus here, all the county board and all the executive for this lovely gesture in memory of Donna,” Brendan Boyle said. “It’s a fitting tribute to her. She played club football for nearly 20 years and one of her best days in club football was in 2006 when she captained Four Masters ladies to the Senior Championship. It was a very proud day for her.

“I know if she was here tonight she would be so proud. She would think the world of this gesture and on behalf of the family we’re indebted to you for doing this. We really appreciate it. Thanks very much.”

Last year, Glenfin were crowned Senior Championship winners having defeated Termon, St Eunan’s won the Intermediate Championship when they overcame Gaeil Fhánada, Robert Emmets came out on top when they faced Dungloe in the Junior A final and Malin took home the Junior B crown following their clash with MacCumhaill’s.
