St Eunan's Conor Morrison makes first competitive appearance in two years

Conor Morrison suffered a complex knee injury in Killybegs in 2020 and had worked his way tirelessly back - alongside physio Cathal Ellis - to the point where he played the full hour for St Eunan's in their Junior A Championship win over Naomh Ultan

The return to competitive football of Conor Morrison brought the biggest cheer of the evening as St Eunan’s enjoyed a notable success over Naomh Ultan in the Donegal Junior A Football Championship.

Morrison was making his first competitive appearance for the Letterkenny club since suffering a horrific injury playing in the Donegal SFC against Killybegs in Fintra two years ago last week.

The then 24-year-old, who had lined out for Donegal in the 2020 Allianz League Division 1, sustained a complicated knee injury, which included a severe multi-ligament injury, which included a ruptured ACL (anterior cruciate ligament).

Having worked closely with former Donegal senior team physio Cathal Ellis for the last two years, Morrison underwent two surgeries on the same knee he had previously been operated on in 2010 to remove floating scar tissue from the knee joint.

He was part of Rory Kavanagh’s panel’s warm-up at St Eunan’s All-County Football Division 1 fixture against Glenswilly in June.

Since then he lined out in three challenge matches - two for the St Eunan’s reserves and then the seniors for whom he was on the panel for against St Naul’s last Saturday - before the decision was made last week to play for the Junior A team against their opponents from Dunkineely.

St Eunan’s, who are managed by Peter McGeehin and Adrian McClafferty, made it two wins from two in the competition with a 1-12 to 1-8 victory, following on from their victory at Robert Emmets. Morrison lined up at full-back against Naomh Ultan, played the full hour and managed to kick a point.
