Donegal U-17s into Ulster final

Ulster U-17 (McGuigan Cup)

Donegal U-17s confirmed their place in the McGuigan Cup (Ulster U-17) final with a convincing win over Monaghan in Annyala on Saturday.

Donegal . . . . . . . . . 4-10

Monaghan . . . . . . . 3-7

Donegal were always on top but it was in the second half that they put their superiority on the scoreboard with three goals. Like the minors, Tyrone will provide the opposition in the Ulster final after they overcame Cavan with ease, 2-18 to 1-7.

Regular scorer Thomas McGowan from Four Masters had them on the board early but by half-time there was just a point between them, Donegal 1-7 to Monaghan's 2-3. Michael Gallagher had fired home the Donegal goal but a late first half penalty had kept the Farney men in touch.

The half-time score flattered Monaghan but it took Donegal a little time to settle at the start of the second half and they were hit with a third Monaghan goal to edge the home side in front.

A point from Cian McEniff was followed by a goal from Paul Murphy after good work by Matthew McGovern.

Shortly after they opened a gap when Thomas McGowan fired home the third goal and in added time McGovern was involved again to set up Cian McEniff for the fourth Donegal goal.

The side now meet Tyrone once more and, like the minors, will hope to overturn the narrow defeat suffered in Ballybofey on Easter Saturday.
