General Election: Sinn Féin earn firm backing in Milford area, tally figures show

With tallying of the votes in the Milford electoral area completed, Sinn Fein continues to poll very strongly in Donegal.

Between them, Pearse Doherty - poised to be the Donegal constituency’s poll topper - Padraig Mac Lochlainn and Noel Jordan took almost 41 per cent of the vote in the Milford area.

Tally figures show Doherty with 1,777 first preferences in the Milford area - a 23.2 per cent share of the 7,655 votes cast.

There was little between Mac Lochlainn and Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue, who took 1,252 and 1,266 votes respectively.

Milford-based Fine Gael candidate Nikki Bradley had 781 first preferences, according to the tally figures, with Charles Ward from the 100% Redress party taking 726 votes.

Aontu’s Mary T Sweeney earned 260 votes in the Milford area while John McNulty took 193 and Independent candidate Niall McConnell received 156.

Independent TD Thomas Pringle took 218 votes out of the Milford area.
