A figure of €53,100 has been approved for projects on the small Islands off Donegal.
Some €39,600 will be given to the provision of Island Pier solar lights at Iniskerragh, Inismean, Innis Oirthear and Gola Islands and €13,500 has been provided to carry out repairs to the Slipway at Lower Cruit to facilitate access to Owey Island.
Pat the Cope Gallagher TD has welcomed the announcement by Gaeltacht Minister Dara Calleary TD “for the interest he has shown in Donegal since his appointment and hopes that it will not be too long until he takes the opportunity to visit the Donegal Gaeltacht.”
Senator Nikki Bradley has today welcomed the announcement of funding totalling €53,100 for infrastructure improvements on Donegal’s offshore islands, as part of a wider €828,000 investment in island communities by the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht.
Speaking after the announcement, Senator Bradley said: “This is welcome news for Donegal’s Island communities who have long called for improvements to critical infrastructure. Investment like this strengthens not only access and safety but also the future sustainability of island life for residents and visitors alike.
“These communities are a vital part of our county’s identity and heritage. I will continue to advocate strongly for further investment in Donegal’s islands and rural areas under the Government’s Our Living Islands policy.”
Minister Calleary has stated that the funding forms part of a broader commitment to empower island communities through infrastructure and service improvements, with up to 90% of the cost covered by the Department and the remainder funded by Donegal County Council.
