Ardara is set to twin with the Municipality of Ardara in Sardinia, Italy.

This will establish an official sister-city partnership between Ardara, Donegal, and Ardara, Sardinia. Although the two towns share a name, they have distinctly different cultures, languages and history.

Twinning involves cultural exchanges, workshops and travel between the destinations.  The initiative is part of Awake Tourism and the European Twinning project.

Awake Tourism was established as a company limited by guarantee to avail of community grant supports, thereby improving Ardara as a place to live, work, and visit for residents, businesses, and tourists.

European Twinning Projects aim to connect municipalities and communities to foster understanding, best practices to and address the common challenges faced.
