Milford Roads Policing Unit stopped a car in Dungloe with bald tyres.
An €80 fine was issued and the driver will receive two penalty points.
Gardaí called the driver ‘Scary from Dungloe!', after they discovered “one of the tyres was in quite a scary state.”
Gardaí have advised conducting all necessary safety checks before undertaking each journey.
“Please check your tyres regularly and even more regularly when the tread depth reaches 3mm. Ensure that your tyres have plenty of tread and are above the legal limit of 1.6mm (1mm for motorcycles).
“The more worn that your tyres become, the less grip they will have on the road surface. It therefore takes longer to stop a vehicle when the road surface is wet. Never take to the roads if your vehicle is not in a roadworthy condition.”
