Department of Transport ‘want to resolve issue’ of Donegal-Dublin flight

Following continued engagement, Donegal Cancer Flights & Services received a response from the Department of Transport regarding the Donegal-Dublin flight elimination.

At Dáil Éireann, the group highlighted the gravity of the situation for patients, families and communities across Donegal who rely on the air service for access to essential medical care and national services.

“We have been in discussions with the Attorney General, and the advice received is that there are no new legal obstacles or barriers regarding the retention of the flight schedule that previously operated,” a senior official at the Department of Transport said.

“Department officials remain in ongoing negotiations with Emerald Airlines and will keep Donegal Cancer Flights and Services informed. We want to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and will remain in close contact with you over the weekend.”

Donegal Cancer Flights and Services have made it clear to the Department that they expect a definitive update and resolution by Monday.

“This issue has gone on long enough, and the people of Donegal, particularly patients who rely on these flights for essential medical appointments, cannot be left in continued uncertainty.

“Should a satisfactory resolution not be forthcoming, we will have no option but to escalate this matter significantly, including mobilising the people of Donegal to travel to Dáil Éireann to ensure that our voices are heard loudly and clearly at the heart of Government.

“The message from Donegal is simple: this lifeline service must be protected and restored without further delay.”
