Donegal’s Charles James & The Rise release new single

Donegal band Charles James & The Rise have released their new single, ‘Wide Awake.’

A husband and wife team of Charles James and Catherine O’Donnell, the folk duo’s single release comes months after the release of another single, entitled ‘Greatest Prize.’

The release of ‘Wide Awake’ also heralds the arrival of their self-titled debut album, due out later this year in September.

Musically, the band says they are influenced “by the darker side of folk and the more haunting elements of choral music.”

‘Wide Awake’ focuses on the “restless, surreal experience of a night battling for sleep,” something which James had said came from a personal place for him.  

The band, who hail from the Inishowen Peninsula, has earned prior plaudits, and continues their tour where their new material can be heard, with headline shows slated for Whelan’s in Dublin and Bennigans in Derry this July.
