Downings homeowner wakes up sleeping burglar

An alleged burglar was caught sleeping by a homeowner near Downings on the morning of June 23.

Gardaí responded to a report of a burglary at a house in Larganreagh, Downings (on Carrigart Road).

The homeowner discovered the man lying upstairs in his home at 4:05am and woke him up. The man then became aggressive but did leave the property, taking a gearbag belonging to the homeowner.

It is believed that entry to the property may have been gained to the house via a downstairs toilet window.

Gardaí have appealed for information. A statement read: “We appeal to anyone who may have been in the area between 3am and 4:30am with a dash-cam to make the footage available to us.

“If anybody observed a man on foot in that area in the early hours of Monday morning, we ask them to contact Gardaí in Milford on 074 9153060.”
