Concrete company applies to replace Ballintra offices and laboratory

A national concrete manufacturing company has applied for planning permission for new offices in Ballintra.

The proposed work would be done at the already existing Roadstone Quarry of the N15, south of Ballintra. 

Roadstone Ltd has submitted the application to Donegal County Council for the demolition of an existing office building and to replace it with the construction of a staff and customer car park, and a new detached single-storey office building with a reception area, offices, canteen, outdoor staff facilities, and a training room. 

Furthermore, Roadstone Ltd is applying for the construction on the site of a detached single-storey testing laboratory building on the site, with connections to the existing surface water and foul drainage networks, utility services, and all associated site development works.

Donegal County Council has set a decision due date for the application on October 7, 2025.

Architects working on behalf of Roadstone Ltd, Paul Doherty Architects Ltd, said that the existing building at the Ballintra site was “outdated” and that the current stone testing laboratory was “totally inadequate.”

They said the proposed plans would not “increase the number of staff but simply to provide improved facilities.” 

The current employment level at the quarry ranges from 14 to 16 people at Roadstone Ltd, according to the Donegal Town-based Paul Doherty Architects Ltd.
