Permission sought for Newtowncunningham warehouse on behalf of global data company

Newtowncunningham may see new Vertiv storage warehouse

Planning permission is being sought for a storage warehouse in Newtowncunningham to store electrical equipment on behalf of Vertiv, a leading data and digital infrastructure company.

Donegal County Council received the planning application from Ross Consulting Agency, trading as a transport company, M Bonner Transport, for the change of use of a former commercial potato store to a shed for storage of electrical switchgear with associated handling equipment.

Further planning permission is being sought for external lorry and trailer storage to an existing yard with access from Main Street, and all associated site works.

Shane McBrearty, of North West Modern Designs, stated to the council that the former potato warehouse had been vacant for some time, but had also seen plenty of lorries and tractors enter the site daily when it was in use.

He wrote: “The planning application proposes to change the use to switchgear storage. The equipment will be stored for a time ranging from 4 to 12 weeks maximum.

“The storage shed is a stopover point in the journey from manufacture to delivery on site on behalf of Vertiv Ltd. The applicant is the transport company contracted to store and deliver the switchgear to the site.”

Vertiv describes itself as a “global leader in critical digital infrastructure for applications in data centres, communication networks, and commercial and industrial environments,” and has a significant presence in Donegal, with facilities in Burnfoot and Letterkenny.

They are based in Ohio, USA, and currently employ over 30,000 employees worldwide, with facilities in over 40 countries.

Donegal County Council has set a decision due date on the planning permission application for November 11.
