Charities receive donations raised from Breid McGill coffee morning fundraiser
Organisers of a fundraising coffee morning in memory of Breid McGill in Glenties donated over €12,000 to three local charities.
A coffee morning was held in Market Hall, Glenties, on Sunday, August 10, which took place on the first anniversary of Breid’s passing.
A statement given to Donegal Live said: “Following the coffee morning and GoFundMe fundraising in memory of Breid McGill, we have raised a total of €12,165.39, with the Donegal Hospice, Cancer Care West and the Donegal Cancer Bus receiving €4,055.13 each.
“We would like to thank everyone who helped us raise this amount, all who contributed and those who helped with the coffee morning in Memory of Breid. We are very grateful to you all to be able to support these very worthy services.”
The charities were all of significance to Breid McGill during her illness. She passed away at the Donegal Hospice, where she had worked as a Palliative Nurse.

Cancer Care West was able to help provide accommodation in Galway whilst Breid was receiving treatment, and the Cancer Bus Services assisted with transportation.
An organiser of the charitable event, Deirbhle Ward and niece of Breid McGill, spoke to Donegal Live soon after the coffee morning fundraiser took place.
She said: “It went really well. There was a massive turnout. We were really overwhelmed with the response. I would like to thank everyone with the baking, helping out, and who made donations.
“Coming from a small town like Glenties, everybody is really supportive. The three charities have probably helped out every household in Donegal, and it is time to give back, and I am sure that people in Glenties and the surrounding area thought so as well.
“As a family, we decided to do this as a family because these charities were important to us as a family.”
