Application submitted for Kilmacrenan childcare facility
Planning permission has been sought from Donegal County Council for a new childcare facility near Kilmacrennan.
The new facility would be located in the Gortnaskeagh townland near Kilmacrennan, and would cater for a maximum of 12 pre-school children.
Listed applicant, Kellie Peoples, has applied for the change of use of an existing domestic shed to a childcare facility within the curtilage of a private dwelling house, and the provision of an external play area.
Kieran Gallagher, the agent for the submitted application, wrote: “The application seeks to provide a childcare facility to help cater for the growing need for childcare in the area.
“The applicant currently offers a very limited ‘babysitting’ service, but the demand has outgrown this in recent times.”

Regarding the childcare service, Gallagher wrote that children would be aged from nine months to three years, and “will be dropped off from 7.30am-9am and will be picked up again at various times during the afternoon and evening.
“No cooking will take place on site. Bottles and baby foods prepared by the guardians will be heated up for the children at the facility. There are no other deliveries perceived.”
Donegal County Council has set a decision due date for the submitted planning application for January 15, 2026.
