Myrid Carten's 'A Want In Her' won three awards at the BIFAs
A Donegal film director won three awards at the British Independent Film Awards, with her debut film, ‘A Want In Her.’
Myrid Carten was a big winner as she attended the red carpet event at London’s Roundhouse, picking up prizes for Best Feature Documentary, Best Debut Director - Feature Documentary, and The Raindance Maverick Award.
The Raindance Maverick Award is an award that honours “maverick films made with a budget of under £1 million.”
‘A Want In Her’ was released in Irish and British cinemas in October, and follows the documentary maker as she returns from London to Donegal’s Gaeltacht to search for her alcoholic mother, who has gone missing.
The search for Myrid’s mother takes her into a feuding family, a contested house, and a history that threatens to take everyone down, including herself, as family members reveal the trials of loving someone who struggles with addiction and madness.

Ahead of the film’s release, Myrid told Donegal Live: “A Want In Her is a film for the big screen, and I’m delighted it will be in cinemas across Ireland and the UK in October.
“Some of the best moments of the festival run have been seeing it connect with audiences and getting messages like ‘what a feeling to be in a cinema where everyone is just entirely focused and immersed in what is happening on the screen.”
