Speed Survey to be conducted on problem South Donegal road

Cllr Micheál Naughton raised idea of installing ramps to deter speeding traffic

Speed Survey to be conducted on problem South Donegal road

Cllr Micheál Naughton asked Council Executive about putting speed ramps on Old Laghey Road

A speed survey is to take place to help combat speeding on the Old Laghey Road, after Cllr Micheál Naughton spoke about the speeding complaints he had received.

The Old Laghey Road runs from Ardeskin, outside Donegal Town, to Laghey.

Speaking at December’s Donegal Municipal District Meeting, Cllr Naughton asked about the possibility of installing road ramps to slow speeding traffic.

He said: “I am getting a huge amount of people onto me about speeding.

“Can we look at ramps? I know that we say we can not get ramps, but then I go to different parts of the county, and they get ramps.

“There seems to be a big issue with speeding. It is a big issue that has come up.”

In response, the Area Manager for Roads and Transportation, Mark Sweeney, commented: “I was getting the same complaints. We are getting a speed survey done to get the background. That is the basis for getting a Road Survey Assessment.

“We will send that to our Road Safety Engineer to come up with a plan. We have a plan to get a Road Safety Assessment done there.”
