Donegal County Council has granted conditional planning permission for the building of 32 properties at a residential estate in Convoy.
Meadowfield Development Ltd, the listed applicant, was granted permission for the proposal, which is to be located at Flax Fields, in the Kiltole townland of Convoy.
The proposed development comprises the construction of 32 dwelling units, comprising six two-bedroom terraced dwellings, eight two-bedroom semi-detached dwellings, eight three-bedroom semi-detached dwellings, one three-bedroom detached dwelling, one four-bedroom detached dwelling, eight two-bedroom apartments, and all associated site works as part of the existing housing estate.
Morgan Architects, architects for the project, said the proposals aimed “to deliver high-quality homes and sustainable communities.”

Furthermore, Morgan Architects said the variety of properties proposed in the development would lead to “a varying range of occupancy profiles where diversity and integration will be encouraged by way of quality public spaces and good links with the local community and amenities.”
The granted planning application is an extension of previous construction and applications at the site at Flax Fields, which first received planning permission from Donegal County Council in 2003, for 94 homes to be built. Moreover, in 2006, permission was granted for the construction of a childcare facility, extra parking, and an external play area.
Donegal County Council granted the submitted application permission with 27 conditions, including a condition that the applicant shall contribute a payment of €64,790.72 in respect of public infrastructure and facilities benefitting development in the area of the Planning Authority that is already provided or is intended to be provided by the Authority.
A further condition is that the application shall pay the sum of €25,000 to the Planning Authority as a special contribution under Section 48 (2)(c) of the Planning and Development Act 2000, in respect of the upgrade of the estate road junction with the L-2354 Kiltole Road which will include the implementation of a raised table junction in the interest of road safety for all road users as part of the ‘L2354 Kiltole, Convoy Active Travel Scheme,’ which will facilitate the development.
