Current building of proposed community care home
Planning permission is being sought for the creation of a community dwelling home for the provision of residential accommodation and care to people in need of care in Letterkenny.
Graded Homes Ltd, a company with an address in Antrim, has applied for the change of use of a residential dwelling on a property on the Ramelton Road, near Letterkenny Shopping Centre, to a community dwelling home with a capacity of 11 bedrooms to serve 12 people, with communal living spaces such as a kitchen, dining and lounge areas, and ancillary spaces at the basement level comprising plant, laundry, and storage rooms.
Additionally, the proposal includes removing an existing shed to construct a two-storey extension and the conversion of an existing garage into ancillary staff accommodation.

Hughes Planning & Development Consultants, on behalf of the applicant, stated: “Overall, the proposed development delivers a high-quality, accessible, and purpose-designed community dwelling in a sustainable town centre location. It represents the sensitive reuse and extension of an existing residential property to meet a defined social and community need.”
A support letter written by a neighbour of the subject property read: “I am familiar with the property’s existing condition, which has been vacant and in poor repair for a considerable period. In its current condition, it detracts from the area’s appearance and does not enhance the streetscape.
“I strongly believe that the proposed redevelopment represents a major improvement on the existing derelict structure. The works will significantly enhance the property’s visual appearance and greatly improve the character and presentation of the surrounding area.”
Donegal County Council has set a decision due date for the submitted planning application for Sunday, March 22.
