Fintra National School
A South Donegal National School, which has held public meetings regarding its future, has launched a new Breakfast Club, which is to operate from September 2026.
Fintra National School, a co-educational Catholic primary school located around two miles from Killybegs, will offer a Breakfast Club, preschool and afterschool from September 26, with interested parties asked to contact the school by March 26.
The service will be provided by Kiddlywinks, which also has a service in Ballintra, and will be subject to numbers.
Fintra National School’s decision to launch the Breakfast Club comes just one month after a public meeting was held to discuss the school’s future, after the school enrolment declined on average by 15% per annum over the last ten years, leading to fears that the school would be closed.

It was reported that 80 people attended the meeting to discuss the issue.
After the meeting, Acting Principal, Aisling Meehan, told Donegal Live: “The plan, really, at the moment is that we have contacted some prospective parents who were at the meeting, who have school-age children, and we were asking them to survey the parents around the area about eligible school-age children, or children for the following years. To find out if people would be interested in sending children here, as parents have a choice of maybe three schools.”
