5th count result sees MacSharry move closer to quota

Counting resumes at the Clarion Hotel - 5th count in after 40 minutes

A long day anticipated at the Clarion Hotel in Sligo. Counting resumed at 9am.

On reflection it looks like FG will hold two seats.

It looks like no candidate will be elected until mid afternoon and there is speculation that most of the candidates to be elected will not reach the quota, perhaps with the exception of Marc MacSharry.

It looks like Paddy O’Rourke’s votes, when distributed would elect Marc MacSharry, but there are a lot of votes to count before that happens.

The counters flew through the fifth count, the distribution of Des Guckian’s votes, and the fifth count, delivered at 9.40am by returning Officer Padraig O’Grady is as follows:

Marc MacSharry FF 8,856 (+18) 8,874 (+19) 8,893 (+143) 9,036 (+86) 9,122
