Aras Mhic Shuibhne in Laghey
A Laghey nursing home has sought planning permission from Donegal County Council for two single-storey extensions to the rear of the property.
Aras Mhic Shuibhne, a 47-resident care home in Mullanasole Barr, has had an application submitted by James Clinton, which, if granted, will provide room for four bedrooms with ensuites.
The designated centre provides 24-hour nursing care, with both long-term (continuing and dementia care) and short-term (assessment, convalescence, and respite care) residents.
A Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) inspection from September 2025 gave a positive outlook on the centre, judging the centre as being fully compliant with all regulations measured.

The inspector wrote: “The overall feedback from residents was that they were happy about the care and support provided by staff.
“Some residents’ comments were that this was a good centre and that they were lucky to be in this centre.”
Donegal County Council has set a decision due date for the submitted planning application for April 30.
