A primary school near Donegal Town is seeking planning permission from Donegal County Council to construct a new garden room, which will serve as a sensory space.

Caroline Feeney, the Chairperson of the Board of Management of Scoil an Linbh Íosa, Killymard, was the listed applicant for the submitted application.

The standalone single-storey ‘garden room’ is to be situated on the south side of the school.

Scoil an Linbh Íosa, which is on the Lough Eske Road, and neighbours St Mary’s Church, currently accommodates more than 230 pupils.

McCabe Architects, on behalf of the school, said: “Scoil an Linbh Iosa have fund raised to procure a prefabricated ‘Garden Room’ for use as a sensory space.

“This space does not require any connection to mains water or the foul drainage system; it will be connected to the existing surface water drainage system.”

In October 2025, the school received planning permission to construct a new classroom, and the Department of Education had previously awarded Scoil an Linbh Íosa additional funding to construct a mainstream classroom to be built as part of a larger Special Educational Needs Base Unit. The school has also had planning permission granted for three Special Educational Needs rooms and other bases.

Donegal County Council has set a decision due date for the application for May 19.
