CSO statistics shows 12% reduction in crime in Letterkenny in 2025

Central Statistics Office (CSO) figures have shown that crime recorded in Letterkenny has decreased by 12.1% from 2024 to 2025.

Annual crime was recorded and released for public information by the CSO, of crime recorded for each Garda Station in the country. 

The total number of crime incidents recorded at Letterkenny in 2025 was 1,907, down from 2,170 in 2024.

Amongst the largest drops of crime incidences was in the category of burglary or related offences, which decreased by 48.8% from 2024 to 2025, from 43 recorded offences to 22 recorded offences in 2025.

Elsewhere, damage to property or the environment reduced by 23.1%, from 143 offences in 2024 to 110 offences in 2025, and road traffic offences fell by 19.9%, from 316 offences in 2024 to 253 offences in 2025.

Theft offences reduced by 16.4%, from 396 offences in 2024 to 331 offences recorded in 2025, and public order offences fell by 7.2%, from 418 offences in 2024 to 388 offences in 2025.

Other crime categories to see a reduction in the number of recorded offences in Letterkenny were Dangerous or Negligent Acts, which reduced by 10.7%, from 318 offences in 2024, compared to 284 offences in 2025.

However, a crime category that saw an increase in recorded offences in 2025 was attempts or threats of murder, assaults, harassments, or related offences, which saw an increase of 8.1%, from 246 offences in 2024 to 266 recorded offences in 2025.
