Repair works are underway at the popular Bank Walk in Donegal Town.
Parts of both the High Bank and the Lower Bank collapsed following exceptionally heavy rains last November.
Paddy Meehan wrote in the Democrat in February of his fears that the High Bank might remain permanently closed off. Cllr Tom Conaghan also highlighted his concerns.
Local councillors were told at the March Donegal Municipal meeting that Donegal County Council had allocted €26,000for repairs and the installation of pilings to prevent future collapse.
This week, Cllr Conaghan spoke of his “delight” that the works are underway. He added, “The Bank Walk is a wonderful amenity for locals and tourists alike - so safe, quiet and peaceful. You wouldn't believe how many people have been asking me about it over the last months.”
A County Council repsonse is awaited.
