Kinlough woman selected for Rio Olympics

Congratulations to Kinlough native Breege Connolly has been selected on the Irish athletics team for the Rio Olympics.

Connolly, who is attached to the North Belfast AC, has been selected to represent Ireland in the Women's Marathon along with Lizzie Lee (Leevale AC) and Fionnuala McCormack (Kilcoole AC).

This is a tremendous achievement for the 38-year-old Kinlough athlete, who has been making great strides improving her marathon times each year and ran 2:37.24 in the London Marathon last year.

She has been a regular at the Cara Bundoran 10 mile race and this year ran 59.08 in the event.

One of her teammates on the Irish team, Fionnuala McCormick (nee Britton) has strong Donegal connections in the Ballintra/Cashelard area.

The Rio Olympics start on Friday, August 5 and end on Sunday, August 21
