Donegal firm Arklu to expand range of Lottie & Finn dolls dolls

Donegal based toy company Arklu is seeking investment of €800,000 after global sales of its Lottie and Finn dolls passed 300,000;.

Letterkenny-based Arklu is expected to have a turnover of €2.7 million in 2016, up from €1.5 million last year and €800,000 the previous year.

Its dolls, a female version called Lottie and a male version called Finn, are manufactured in China.

Managing Director Ian Harkin told the Sunday Business Post this week that he is hoping that some of the bigger toy store chains will take notice.

Over 300,000 dolls have been sold and turnover has grown from €800,000 in 2014 to an estimated €2.7 million this year.

The company is now seeking to raise €800,000 through an Employment Incentive and Investment Scheme to fund further growth.

Arklu carried out 18 months of research working with children, parents, retailers, industry experts, child psychologists and child nutrition experts, leading to the generation of over 100 action points which have been incorporated into Lottie’s development.

There are 24 dolls in the range, as well as a range of accessories. Over 300,000 have been sold to date.

Since her debut in 2012, Lottie has won 19 international toy awards.
