Mark English failed in his attempt to make the 800m Olympic final after finishing fifth in the semi-final.
The Letterkenny man was up against the World record holder, David Rudisha. He needed to break the Irish record of 1.44.82 but considering his injuries earlier in the year, it was just to be.
Mark's time was 1.45.93 in the semi-final, just outside his season's best.
Mark had qualified for the semi-final after finishing a comfortable third in his heat behind Brandon McBride of Canada and his old rival, Lewandowski of Poland. Mark's time in the heat was 1.46.40.
