Aspire and achieve with North West Regional College

The best way to predict the future is to create it…and one of the best ways to create a successful future is to take a step towards your chosen career, with a course at North West Regional College this September.

There are many reasons why students choose NWRC in Derry~Londonderry, Limavady and Strabane. From the state-of-the-art learning facilities, to the expertise of the lecturing staff across the curriculum, the College has experienced a steady growth in applications in recent years, with students keen to gain practical qualifications that equip them for university or employment.

There’s never been a better time to become an NWRC student, given the opportunities that the College are now providing. The Strand Road Campus has developed a reputation as the place to be for Music, Performing Arts, Construction, Engineering, Computing and Hospitality and Catering, thanks to the modern studios, theatre, workshops, IT suites and restaurants where the students learn their practical skills.

Many students this summer are celebrating having achieved the top results in the Level 3 Extended Diplomas – triple star distinctions – which equates to 420 UCAS points. Others are thrilled to have been accepted to the second or final year of honours degree programmes having successfully completed their HNDs and Foundation Degrees at NWRC

Across all course areas, students can make the most of the expertise and resources within the College to enhance their skills, from Care and Health to Early Years, Science, Business, Administration and Media Production where students avail of the College’s full HD TV studio and radio station. The range of courses provide school leavers and those returning to learning, the chance to gain the qualifications that employers are looking for. The practical work experience included in these courses is an added benefit in applying for work or a degree level study as NWRC students have a hands-on insight into their chosen career path.

The College is proud of its modern facilities, expert staff and the quality of teaching that is delivered. But it is most proud of its students who take full advantage of the opportunities provided to them.

Without the experience, hard work and dedication of the College’s teaching staff, students would not be achieving their potential. From the support staff who assist students with application, financial assistance and pastoral care, to the lecturers who bring their industry experience to the course subjects they teach, students are welcomed into a learning environment designed to help them achieve. A number of staff have also picked up regional and national accolades recognising the innovative teaching and their dedication to providing the best experience possible for their students.

In fact, many of this year’s award winning students attribute their success to that support received from their lecturers, the practical nature of studying at NWRC, and the fact they enjoy the NWRC experience as Science student Audrey McMenamin explains;

“The College was so welcoming right from the first interview. Being involved in such an intense course, I have been surrounded by motivated and positive people. The College provides an environment of both energy and friendship, which made for a great learning experience.”

There has been a significant number of local students choosing higher education at NWRC, with courses now including a range of exciting choices at HND and Foundation Degree level. With lower tuition fees and more work placement than university options, HE at NWRC is a valued route to gaining a third level education. The College also offers a wide range of Training for Success and Apprenticeship programmes that provide vocational skills for entry into employment, and include work placement opportunities.

A limited number of full time places are still available for those who have not yet applied and who are soon to be receiving Leaving Cert exam results – to find out more information get along the College’s Clearing Day events at either Strand Road Derry-Londonderry, Derry Road Strabane, or Main Street Limavady Campus on Thursday 25th August and Friday 26th August 10.00am - 4.00pm – course information and careers guidance will be available.
