Chiropractic and Sports - Getting the most out of your body

Now that the Olympics have come to a close, we can marvel at the incredible feats of human performance we were fortunate enough to witness.

From strength, stamina and speed to sheer willpower.

We watched as athletes from around the world put years of training to the test pushing themselves to new physical and mental heights.

It gave me great personal pleasure and pride to see athletes, that I have cared for and help prepare in the past, win silver medals, gold medals and set world records in the process. Just like they had done in London in 2012 as well. Knowing the huge sacrifices these athletes and the their families have made for a great number of years, it was fantastic to see them realize their dreams.

For many years, chiropractors have played an integral role not only in the Olympics, but also in the ongoing training and performance enhancement of top athletes around the world. From my four years working with Everton FC I know that the majority of premiership clubs employ chiropractors, and chiropractors were part of the medical teams amongst some of the top cycling teams in the world during my time working with Orica GreenEDGE and Team Sky.

Top athletes such as Tiger Woods, Bradley Wiggins, Evander Holyfield, Tom Brady, Rory Mc Ilroy and Jordan Spieth, to name but a few, have regular chiropractic care as part of their preparation.

Even the fastest man on earth Usain Bolt (pictured above) has spoken about how vital chiropractic care is for him.

So how does Chiropractic help?

My approach is to assess how the body moves biomechanically, and to identify areas of irritation or interference within our nervous system. Why? Because the nervous system (made up of the brain, spinal cord and all the nerves branching off from the spinal cord going to every part of the body) controls, regulates and coordinates every single function within the body.

From co-ordination, reaction time, speed and stamina to strength. Chiropractic care allows the body to function at it’s best, improving performance and decreasing risk of injury. Whether you are a professional athlete, a weekend warrior footballer or just learning to walk, chiropractic can help to improve all aspects of your bodies function. Regular chiropractic adjustments can help keep you functioning and performing at your best, all the time.
