Recreational projects get funding boost

Projects in Donegal will be allocated €90,000 as a result of a funding for recreational projects as part of the Government's programme to support rural development.

The announcement was made by the Minister of State for Regional Economic Development at the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Mr. Michael Ring.

A total of €4.455 million was allocated for the country.

Minister Ring said: “I am delighted to be in a position to announce this new package of funding that will ensure the maintenace of existing recreational facilities and the development of of some new and exciting outdoor facilities across the country.”

This is the first of several tranchs of funding for rural recreational facilities.

Figures from Fáilte Ireland show that in 2014, close to 1.2 million visitors took part in hiking or cross country walking.
