On Wednesday 10th August 2016 in The Mount Errigal, Hotel Awards and Certificates were officially presented by Pamela Toner, Programme Manager at Optimum Ltd to participants from the local area who completed the MOMENTUM programmes.

Optimum Limited ran 2 MOMENTUM programmes aimed at the long term unemployed in Letterkenny in 2014/2015. These were conducted with the support of the national MOMENTUM training initiative. Each twenty seven week programme comprised of thirteen weeks in-house training and ten – fourteen weeks professional work placement.

The thirteen week training course covered 2 QQI Certificates; Level 5 in Customer Service and Sales and Communications. The Communications module aimed to provide participants with the skills and confidence to apply for and successfully get a job. Optimum Ltd. decided to focus on Customer Service, Communication and Selling Skills as these are essential tools for customer focussed businesses.

While it is important to gain the appropriate qualifications, Optimum Ltd. is more concerned with the relevance of the material and actually assisting the participants in getting and sustaining a job.

“We liaise with the participant and company for the duration of the work placement; and beyond, to ensure a smooth transition into employment. We also have a business development team sourcing opportunities for our participants.” Pamela Toner, Programme Manager.

Optimum partnered with Local Businesses in Letterkenny to create employment opportunities for the long term unemployed. Each company that provides employment following the thirteen week work placement can avail of the Jobs Plus scheme, which offers a €7,500 - €10,000 subsidy towards salary costs over a 2 year period.
