A brilliant day in Ballyshannon

A lovely evening in more ways than one saw the largest crowds ever out to greet Santa as he arrived in Ballyshannon on Saturday evening.

All the day there was a very special atmosphere in the town as preparations for the annual switch on of the Christmas lights was used as a staging post for a host of other activities.

There was a street market all day in the Gabels area, seasonal music on PA systems and a host of local talent from the Bel Canto choir to the town's wonderful Brass and Reed band all 'played' their part in making it a very festive afternoon.

After Santa's arrival, courtesy of the local fire service, the lights were duly switched on at 4.30pm on the button by members of the victorious under 12 Erne Wanderers Fc soccer team and the Under 13 county champions from Aodh Ruadh ladies team.

Well done to all invovled in putting the lights up and orgsanising a truly brilliant day in Ballyshannon.
