Ballyshannon's Katie Gallagher won Journalist of the Year at the Hybrid Student Media Awards DCU this week.
Katie is in her final year of journalism and has worked with the Donegal Democrat for the past six months as part of her studies at DCU.
The award was judged by Caitríona Perry, who is the current RTE 6:01 news co-anchor and former RTÉ Washington Correspondent.
Caitríona is a DCU Alumni and got her Undergraduate Degree in Journalism and a Master’s Degree in International Relations, both in DCU.
The awards, in aid of Breast Cancer Ireland were held in Croke Park and were presented by radio and TV presenter, Ruth Scott.
Katie told the Democrat she was "delighted" with the award. Katie is due to start a work placement with The Star newspaper in May.
