Sadness at passing of Andy McGranaghan (Snr.), Letterkenny

Much loved Andy will be sadly missed

Sadness at passing of Andy McGranaghan (Snr.), Letterkenny

There is deep sadness in Letterkenny this weekend following the news of the death of Andy McGranaghan (Snr.). Convent Road.

One of the town's most respected and best known residents, Andy will be best remembered for his smiling face, warmth and outgoing nature.

He had been in ill health recently, and he passed away in Letterkenny University Hospital on Friday evening after taking ill at home.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, Andy was very well known around his home town. Many people got to know Andy as a member of the Aura Leisure Centre (and before that, the old swimming pool). He attended the leisure centre almost daily and loved nothing more than a relaxing chat with his many friends in the pool or steam room area.

He worked for a time in England, but lived most of his life in Letterkenny. Andy and his wife Kathleen only moved into their home at Convent Road shortly before Christmas having moved from Glencar. His move to Convent Road brought him back to the Back Road area, his childhood home.

Andy is survived by his wife Kathleen, sons Andy and Brendan (Ben) and daughters Collette, Connie and Orla, grandchildren, other relatives and many friends to whom sympathy is extended.

Andy’s remains are reposing at his late residence at Convent Road.

His funeral takes place from there on Monday going to St Eunan’s Cathedral, Letterkenny for Requiem Mass at 10am.

Interment afterwards in Conwal Cemetery.
