Traffic counts to start this week at one of Donegal's busiest junctions

Traffic counts are to start this week at McClay's Corner in Stranorlar

A review of traffic management at one of the county’s busiest junctions is to get underway this week.

Consultants have been appointed by Donegal County Council to carry out a review of the operation of McClay’s Corners in Stranorlar where the N13 and N15 meet.

The junction is on the busy route linking south Donegal and Letterkenny.

Members of the Stranorlar Municipal District have been told that traffic counts will take place this week. The traffic counts will be done by a data collection company.

Local councillor Patrick McGowan said smart traffic lights are needed at the corner.

“While adjustments to the traffic lights late last year have improved traffic movements, nevertheless it is important that this survey goes ahead and identifies any glitches that occur as well as recording traffic movements on each approach road at different times in the day.” he said.

“This busy junction at McClay’s Corner needs smart  traffic lights that can be adjusted to handle heavy traffic movements coming in different direction at various times of the day.”
