Sinn Féin Councillor Marie Therese Gallagher has said there is a real need for housing in small Gaeltacht villages in order to preserve the language and the area.
Speaking at a recent meeting of the Glenties Municipal Area, she said that having homes in these areas preserved the languages and ensured the future of the schools in these areas.
She called for more lands to be bought in areas so that in years to come the council could have land to build on to support people who wanted to move to the area. She said that this concept had worked before.
Housing manager, Eamon Brown, said that the council were actively looking to purchase land and construct in a number of Gaeltacht areas.
