"I think World Down Syndrome Day will help everyone to learn more about our lives," says Niamh from Donegal

Niamh - "I love working in a team and meeting people"

My name is Niamh. I live near Letterkenny with my parents and my dog Sam.

I love going out with my friends to the cinema, to bowling or just having a good time.

I love music, dancing and performing. I go to the Stage Beyond Theatre Company in Derry two days a week and I have been in a number of performances, like Rashomon and Gulliver’s Travels.

Right now, I go to Dublin every Wednesday for a hairdressing course that I’m doing with Down Syndrome Ireland. I am learning lots of new skills and I enjoy the company of my new friends who are doing the course with me.

The rest of the week, I go to the National Learning Network in Letterkenny. I have been going there for a number of years and they have given me lots of help. I have also done several rounds of work experience. After such a busy week, I like to chill out at the weekend.

In the future, I hope to get a job, because I love working in a team and meeting people. I would like to continue travelling during my summer holidays, seeing new places and doing new things.

I think that World Down Syndrome Day is a great idea and it will help everyone to learn more about our lives.
