Luke McAteer won twice at big prices at Galway this week

Luke McAteer picked up his second win at the Galway Festival on Saturday with an impressive win on the card.

The Rathmullan man took the win in the Bathshack Maiden on 22/1 shot Blue Moon Boy for trainer Andrew Kinirons.

McAteer and Blue Moon Boy took the lead late into the final furlong of the one-mile race, just holding off the challenge from 3/1 joint favourite Smithfield by a nose, going to a photo finish.

It was a second win of the week for McAteer, who also won on another big outsider on Thursday on 40/1 shot Tropical Island for Richard Fahey in the Arthur Guinness Irish EBF Corrib Fillies Stakes Listed Race.

"It was great, I've ridden him twice, and he's learning all the time," McAteer told TG4 after the race.

"Today was the first day he's went to the start and I felt like he knew what he was doing. It was a lovely trip around and I thought I had the line good. I wasn't sure if I won but it's nice to get another winner here.

"It's lovely to ride winners here and it's great for the owner. I've ridden a lot of horses for her now so it's nice to get her a winner.

"I had a winner on Thursday, which was lovely to get. It was a listed race, so it has been a good end to the week, so it's nice".
