The Donegal Relay For Life has raised more than €263,000 for the Irish Cancer Society.

The total raised of €263,453 was revealed at a cheque presentation night at The Mount Errigal Hotel in front of many of those who took part in Relay for Life Donegal 2026 as well as volunteers and sponsors who helped make the May event happen.

The funds were raised from Relay For Life Donegal 2026 which took place at the end of May at ATU Letterkenny with 32 teams participating in the 24-hour walk.

Fundraising also included the Boy the Kettle community fundraising campaign. The Boil The Kettle Appeal was a new addition this year to the annual Relay For Life Donegal activities people everywhere, across Donegal, across Ireland and across the world, to put the kettle on, gather their loved ones, and host a tea morning or tea evening throughout the month of April in support of the Irish Cancer Society.

The cheque presentation was an opportunity to “celebrate our community”, Donegal Relay For Life said.

“Thank you to everyone who contributed in one way or another throughout 2026,” the charity posted.

“We are extremely grateful in Donegal to help the Irish Cancer Society support families in Donegal with cancer services and research.”

The Donegal Relay For Life is supported by its ambassadors Daniel and Majella O’Donnell.

The couple sent apologies for being unable to attend the event. In a video message on behalf of himself and Majella, Daniel issued “a huge thank you to one and all for everything that you did throughout this year for Relay for Life”.

“Especially in the Boy the Kettle campaign, which turned out to be a wonderful idea and an amazing success. So thank you very much.”
