Stranded yacht rescued by Lough Swilly RNLI
The Lough Swilly RNLI rescued a stranded yacht off the coast of North Donegal after it broke down.
The incident occurred on Friday night, May 16th, after Malin Head Coast Guard received a call for assistance from the occupants of the vessel in difficulty.
The Malin-based Coast Guard dispatched Lough Swilly RNLI at 9.46pm to assist the yacht in difficulty, which was located 1.5 nautical miles north-west of Fanad Head.

The crew made their way to the stricken vessel in perfect weather conditions and arrived shortly after being dispatched. On inspection of the boat, it was discovered that the yacht’s propellers were fouled by fishing pots, and the decision was made to cut the vessel free and tow it to Buncrana.
The all-weather lifeboat crew then proceeded to Buncrana Pier to refuel and make ready for service.
A spokesperson for Lough Swilly RNLI is advising members of the public to be water safety aware and that if: “You're in difficulty in or on the water, or see someone in trouble, please dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.”
