Not for the first time this summer, there is frustration being expressed in Inishowen after abandoned vehicles blocked a local bus service from completing its route.

Parking along the narrow road to Shrove Beach means that the Foyle Coaches Local Link bus will be unable to reach its destination for the rest of the day. The routes affected by the vehicles that have been abandoned are the Greencastle to Letterkenny and the Greencastle to Derry services.

“Once again, Local Link services 953 & 957 cannot complete the routes via Shrove due to cars abandoned along both sides of the road,” the company posted on its social media pages.

“Shrove will not be served by public transport for the rest of today.”

Some locals have complained and expressed concern that the illegal parking will also impede emergency services if there is a callout.

While the blockage on the Shrove route has been a continuous problem during the summer, especially during the warm weather, leading to a packed beach of some bathers parking their cars on the narrow road.

This has led to local people calling on Donegal County Council or An Garda Síochána to find a solution, especially as the good weather is expected to last well into next week.
