Marion Doherty was involved in the establishment of the maritime museum in 1994
Tributes have been paid to one of the founding members of the Inishowen Maritime Museum.
Marion Doherty, née Canning, passed away at her home at Eleven Ballyboes, Greencastle.
The board and staff of the Inishowen Maritime Museum have extended their sympathies to her family, describing her as “a member of the committee that established the maritime museum and was our neighbour for many years”.
“Marion and her children were hard-working volunteers involved in the establishment and running of the museum, in our early years.”
The museum, which opened its doors in 1994, is to be closed on the day of her funeral, Friday, September 5, “as a mark of respect to an erstwhile colleague and friend”.
A death notice said she was the beloved wife of George and much-loved mother of Keith (Donna), Carol (John), Claire (Patrick) and Mairéad (James) and devoted granny of Clara, Ronan, Evan, Declan, Aoife, Jamie, Cillian, Donncha, Paudie, James, and Georgia.
Predeceased by her sister Sr Anna Fidelis, she is deeply regretted and sadly missed by her sisters and brother, Kathleen, Margaret, Phyllis, Bernie and Michael, nieces and nephews, wider family circle, friends and neighbours.
Her funeral will take place from her home on Friday, September 5 at 10.20 am for 11 am requiem Mass in St Mary’s Church, Ballybrack, followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery.
