Planning permission sought to complete unfinished Greencastle housing estate

Planning permission has been sought to complete a housing development, 35 years after planning permission was first granted to construct 14 homes in Greencastle.

The applicant, Gerry Mullan, is seeking to construct seven houses with individual wastewater treatment systems and percolation areas. As part of the application, Mr Mullan is seeking permission for the completion of site development works at the unfinished housing scheme in Drumaweir.

Planning permission was previously granted for 14 homes on the site in 1990, and four homes were built on the basis of that planning permission. The road serving the lands was constructed, and footpath kerbing, storm drainage, and public lighting were installed on the foot of a further planning application to complete site works at the housing development in 1997.

Subsequent planning applications were submitted and granted for the completion of site works and the development of nine homes on the site.

Mr Mullan is now seeking permission to complete the infrastructural services, through surfacing of the footpaths and completing the finished course to the road, to benefit the existing houses on the scheme.

Despite planning permission being granted to erect 14 houses 35 years ago, there have only been four homes constructed, and it was outlined in the current application that, because of increased standards in the development of wastewater treatment systems, particularly with separation distances, it is only possible to develop seven further houses within the scheme.

A decision on the planning application is expected to be made by the 18th of September.
