Extension and upgrades sought for Muff Community Park

Muff Community Development Co-op Society Ltd (MCD) is seeking an extension to its facilities at Muff Community Park.

(MCD), was founded in 1995 and is a social enterprise, cross-community registered charity, and acts as an umbrella group for community and voluntary organisations in the Muff area.

The organisation is seeking permission for an extension of 20 car parking spaces to the existing car park, which is currently occupied by 20 parking spaces. They are also seeking to construct a building for a multi-use activity space, with a connection to existing services and all associated works.

MCD currently employs five part-time and two full-time staff, including a manager, to deliver the Muff and District Community Services Programme (CSP).

The programme, funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development, via Pobal, manages St Mary’s Community Hall and Resource Centre, Muff Community Park, and provides caretaking and administrative services at Quigley’s Point Community Centre.

MCD also acts as a vehicle to source, manage, and administer funding for the provision of general civic improvements and facilitated actions by other groups.

The Community Park currently contains a Welcome point/Coffee Dock and Visitor Information Point, multi-games area, cabin for small local businesses, toilet block, playground, grassed, drained open parkland, and a covered, ventilated event space.

In more recent times, a wheelchair accessible swing has been installed within the playground. The popular facility attracts an average of 350 users per week, rising to 1,000 people per day in the Summer.

In their application, MCD stated, “The project will facilitate the continued operation and development of a valuable community asset which not only delivers employment, services and activities to the local community but attracts users from across Inishowen and further afield.”

Any submissions on the development can be made until the 2nd of October. A decision is expected on the application by the end of October.
